Safety Tip: What is STAY and AWAY arming?

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

Most home security alarm systems have a STAY and AWAY feature.  STAY arms the perimeter (doors & windows), leaving the motions off.  Turn on STAY when home, and still be able to be in the house.  AWAY turns on everything (including the motions).  Turn on AWAY when you are the last one out.

Safety Tip: Dummy Cameras are for Dummies

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

“Dummy Cameras” are for dummies.  Did you know that if you have non-functional cameras installed, you are providing a “reasonable expectation” of security.  If something happens and the cameras are found to be ‘fake’ or not working, you could be sued.  Don’t invite liability or litigation.  If cameras don’t record, then fix, remove, or replace them.  Keep your family safe with a “real” and working camera system.

Safety Tips: Put Burglars behind Bars

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

Burglary bars are effective but ugly.  Don’t put yourself in jail just because you are fearful of a breakin.  Burglars should be behind bars, not homeowners.  Alarm systems can protect your family AND not make your home look like San Quintin.  If you choose to install bars, have adequate emergency escape routes, and teach everyone in the house, especially the kids, how to get out in case of fire.

Safety Tip: Quality is Up. Prices are Down!

Monday, August 27th, 2012

I can’t afford an alarm system?!?  Really?  Have you gotten a quote recently?  Quality is up, and prices are down.  The newest alarm systems can be operated from your smart phone, tablet, or computer.  They can turn lights on as you leave or arrive.  They can text you when family members come home.  They can lock and unlock your doors without a key.  They don’t even need a home phone to connect to the monitoring center.  Now that’s peace-of-mind!  Call Aloha Alarm at 488-4111 for a free, no obligation estimate.

Safety Tip: Keep your Alarm Permit Current

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

Is your HPD alarm permit current?  Don’t pay unnecessary non-permit fines.  Non-permit fines start at $100 and go up from there.  If you switch alarm monitoring companies, you don’t have to repay another fee for the transfer, just notify HPD Permit Office of the change.  Call HPD at 532-8445.

Safety Tip: In Dog We Trust

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

My dog will protect me!  Really?  Do you really think that your dog will discourage a determined burglar?  They’ve seen ’em before, and know how to ‘neutralize the threat’.

Safety Tip: Smoke Kills

Monday, August 20th, 2012

It is typically NOT the fire that kills, it’s the SMOKE.  Test your smoke detectors annually.  Pick a date; birthday, anniversary, etc., and make point to change all the detector batteries.  Don’t pull batteries to stop the late night beeping.  Always replace with a fresh set.

Safety Tip: Stop Mail & Newspaper Delivery

Monday, August 20th, 2012

Safety Tip:  When on vacation, stop mail and newspaper delivery.  A handful of old newspapers at your door is a sure sign that the homeowner is away.
