HiAlarm Out of Business

HiAlarm Out of BusinessHiAlarm is Out of Business!

As reported by KHON2 news , HiAlarm is out of business.

Customers who purchased alarm systems from HiAlarm recently received letters from Monitronics that HiAlarm went out of business, as reported by KHON2 News on April 8, 2013.

Another story aired on Hawaii News Now on April 9, 2013 confirming the same basic facts.

HiAlarm, owned by Art Miller, started business on Oahu in 2011.  Mr. Miller quickly realized the need for a “local face”, and hired comedian Augie Tulba as Vice President, to provide a familiar face to their new company.  HiAlarm’s primary business model was to offer free or deeply discounted alarm systems with high monthly fees, and then sell their contracts to a mainland monitoring company (Monitronics).  Many local families were attracted to the “seemed too good to be true” marketing like free lifetime service, free alarms, and even free iPads with every alarm purchase.

Monitronics, a Texas based company, primarily in the business of purchasing alarm monitoring contracts from independent alarm dealers like HiAlarm, and then providing monitoring services for these acquisitions is still in the process of deciding the fates of the old HiAlarm’s customers.

Unfortunately, the promises made by HiAlarm like local representation, lifetime free service, and lifetime free re-locations, will have no backing, and Monitronics will have to search for local alarm companies to provide service to these alarm customers.

Fortunately this cloud has a silver lining.  The most common equipment used by HiAlarm is 2GIG.  Local alarm companies that are familiar with the 2GIG product line and are registered with Alarm.com for GSM cellular monitoring retransmission, can take over these existing customers with a minimum of disruption and costs.  In most situations, the new alarm company will only need to replace the Cellular Communication Module, and reprogram the existing alarm equipment to send signals to their monitoring facility.

Aloha Alarm can take over these types of systems.  If you were a customer of HiAlarm and have a 2GIG alarm system, call Aloha Alarm at 808-488-4111.  We will be glad to help you to transition your services to our monitoring station.
