How to tell Best from Worst Alarm Companies in Hawaii

How to tell Best from Worst Alarm Companies in HawaiiWho are the Worst Alarm Companies in Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii?

What does a bad alarm company look like?

Like any other industry, home security alarm companies have great companies and worse companies.  The main difference with security systems versus common consumer products, is that you are entrusting the protection and safety of your family on the quality of the equipment, and on the dependability of the alarm company’s service.  It’s not like being able to return a toaster to Costco.  How do you decide? In my 33 years of providing alarm services to the homes and families of Hawaii, I have become pretty good at recognizing the best alarm companies from the worst; and they ARE NOT all equal.  If you are hoping to read a list of the worst security companies around Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, I am about to disappoint you.  I consider myself a professional with the highest of values and integrity.  I am not going to point out specific companies.  I will, however, teach you what to look for.  Once you know how to spot them, it will become as clear as day!

The following list highlights the signs that can help you figure out if the company that you are investigating is worthy of your trust:

  • Is the company properly licensed?  See my previous post Compare Security Alarm Companies.
  • Does the company have all of the required insurances?
  • How many complaints are filed against the company?
  • Can the company provide a COGS (Certificate of Good Standing) showing that they are legitimate with the State?
  • Can the company provide a recent tax clearance (showing that they have been filing tax reports and paying their taxes?
  • How long has the company been around?  Does the management staff have experience in the industry via prior associations or employment?
  • How many times does the phone ring during business hours?  After hours?  Do they return calls when you leave a message?
  • Does the after hours phones get outsourced to an answering service or to an electronic voice mail system?
  • Does the company operate from a legitimate commercial location, or do they work out of their garage (state law requires a physical commercial location).  We call the others “trunk slammers”.
  • Does the company keep your accounts in-house, or do they sell your contract to the mainland.  Don’t be surprised to find out that your chosen alarm company is just an independent dealer that sells your account to one of the mainland “Big Boys” and then doesn’t have any further responsibility for repair, billing, or customer service.  See my recent post Home Security Alarm Companies are Selling You Out.
  • Does the company operate permanently in Hawaii, or are they just here for the summer (“Summer Sales Programs”).
  • Do you have the owner’s phone number?  Sometimes you may want to talk to the boss.
  • Have any of your family, friends, or co-workers ever used them?  Did they have a positive experience?
  • What is the turnaround time for a service call?  Is there recourse if they don’t meet their commitments?
  • Does the salesperson ever call back after you sign the contracts?

I am willing to stake my company’s reputation, quality, and commitment against any other alarm company.  Please feel free to check us out.  Do your homework & diligence.  If you are in the market for the best home security system alarm company in Hawaii, then check us out and judge for yourself.  It will be time well spent.
